1. Bhanu Athaiya (First Indian to win oscar award in 1983)
She is one of the most acclaimed artist of Indian Cinema. She won the Oscar along with John Mollo under the category of Best Costume Designer for the movie Gandhi(1982). She is the first Indian to be awarded such a prestigious award. She has worked with the most eminent personalities of the Indian cinema like Guru Dutt, Yash Chopra, Raj Kapoor, etc.
2. Satyajit Ray (First Indian to win Honorary Award)
He is a renowned director of Indian and Bengali cinema. He was presented with the Honorary Oscar Award for his Lifetime Achievement in the movie industry in 1992. He is a motivation to many filmmakers all over the world. Satyajit Ray has also received the highest civilian award The Bharat Ratna in 1992. He has directed 36 movies of which 29 are feature films, 5 are documentaries and 2 are short films.
A music composer, singer, lyricist, and music director who needs no introduction. He is a globally acclaimed name and his creations are chartbusters. He was honored with the Academy Award in the categories of Best Original Song and Best Original Score for the song Jai Ho of the movie Slumdog Millionaire. He is comfortable with a dozen of musical instruments like keyboard, goblet drum, etc.
4. Resul Pookutty
He is an Indian sound designer, sound editor, and mixer. He received the Oscar under the category of Best Sound Mixing for the movie Slumdog Millionaire along with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke. He has also been awarded Padma Shri, BAFTA award, National Film award, etc.
He is a lyricist and a renowned poet. His sensational songs are heart touching and loved by everyone. He received his Academy award under the category of Best Original Song for Jai Ho of Slumdog Millionaire. He is the first Indian lyricist to have backed the highest Indian film honor The Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
There have been many Academy awards backed by the Indian artists but still, none of the Indian movies have won an award in the Foreign Movie category. The Indian cinema would have pulled off a beauty so that many more of such awards could be backed by the nation.
